Trump’s War Budget Is Looting America

At People Power United, we believe America’s promise means nothing unless it reaches everyone. A government budget is not just paperwork. It is a confession of priorities. It tells us who gets protected, who gets sacrificed, and who gets paid.
As America marks its 250th year, this moment demands honesty about the values this nation claims to stand for: liberty, justice, dignity, equality, democracy, and the public good. For generations, people have stood up to defend those values and refused to let power decide whose lives mattered.
Now it is our time.
Right now, Trump and his Republican allies are telling working families to accept less. Less health care. Less food assistance. Less housing support. Less climate action. Less help for children, seniors, veterans, students, and people just trying to survive.
But somehow, there is always more money for war.
No Blank Checks for Wars No One Wanted
Congress is now considering the National Defense Authorization Act, a massive war-budget bill that would help push total military spending toward a staggering $1.5 trillion for 2027.12 This war budget was introduced just one year after Congress rolled back funding for Medicaid and food assistance — leaving millions without health coverage and more than 4 million people without SNAP benefits. 3 4 5
War over workers. That is the choice they are making.
They cut care.
They cut food.
They cut help for families.
Now they’ve turned around and demanded another blank check for a war, a check separate from the nearly $88 billion Trump is demanding from Congress to further fund a war in Iran that the American people did not ask for, did not need, and should not be forced to pay for.6
We declare: no more blank checks for war while families are being abandoned at home.
A government that can fund bombs should fund health care. A country that can enrich defense contractors should feed children. A Congress that can find billions for war should find the courage to protect seniors, house families, lower prescription drug costs, strengthen public schools, and keep people alive.
Do not let them tell us there is no money.
There is money. There is plenty of money in the richest country on earth. The question is who gets it.
Right now, too many politicians are choosing military contractors over Medicaid, war spending over food assistance, and billionaire giveaways over working families. That is not security. That is abandonment.
Real security is a child going to bed fed. Real security is a parent seeing a doctor before a crisis becomes an emergency. Real security is clean water, safe housing, good schools, stable jobs, and a democracy where public money serves the public good.
America does not need another blank check for a war no one wanted. America needs leaders with the moral courage to invest in life, dignity, freedom, and the people who make this country possible.
