This pattern has repeated itself throughout history, but we have the power to stop it.
Despite Donald Trump's presidency, let's be clear: he is no leader. Nearly 80% of people who call America home did not vote for him, and we cannot let his regime define us. This is our moment to build a resilient and inclusive movement capable of resisting the ambitions of the wealthy, powerful, and privileged few who seek to strangle our democracy.

Rule 13, Stop Authoritarianism
Stop Shopping for Change
We need to bring as many people of all kinds together in the movement to stop authoritarianism in our country. A truly inclusive movement must include a variety of tactics. Many people who deplore MAGA, Trumpism and authoritarianism do not see what they can do to bring about change: people who must not take a day off from work for political purposes; people who are disabled or retired and don’t go to work but may not be as easily involved in group activities; people who simply don’t publicly demonstrate. These are people who would, nonetheless, want a place in the movement. What might they do?
They could Stop Shopping on the 13th of each month.
With apologies to Reverend Billy for stealing part of his work I propose we start something in which all can engage. Some will want to do more. I encourage that for those who can do so. My ask is that we engage all those who we may ignore in the search for more dramatic efforts.
The 13th has always had a slightly sinister shade to it. Friday the 13ths ,even more so. Such dates provide an easy to remember tool to spur action. Using the same date each month encourages an ongoing commitment. For many it could be a starting point that would lead to other activities. Before each 13th we would need to prepare by making sure we would not need food, gas or other supplies. For those who work it might be good to have paper bags for a take to work lunch. Print 13th on the bag. If you have thermos for coffee you can bypass the coffee shop. For those who want to get together on that day, going to a house or apartment rather than a bar or restaurant could be a new and enjoyable practice. The point is to have as many people as possible refrain from buying anything from commercial establishments, stores, shops, restaurants, online, etc.
As the effort grows it will be noticed. Our job is to stop shopping on the 13ths, talk about it and recruit others. That’s it. Anyone and Everyone can do it. Join the movement.
