In response to recent Supreme Court shenanigans, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court has become unhinged. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.

People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.

Trump

Washington Post: Never mind the immunity ruling. Trump can be prosecuted for Jan. 6.

• Richard Lazarus argues that the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling does not prevent Trump from being prosecuted in his January 6th election case. He says the ruling leaves enough open questions for a successful prosecution.

• Jon Dougherty and Norman L. Eisen argue that Trump’s incarceration of Michael Cohen in 2020, which a federal court recently found to be political “retaliation,” is exactly the kind of thing the Supreme Court seems poised to treat as acceptable.

AP: Montana Supreme Court rules minors don’t need parental permission for abortion

• Amy Beth Hanson reports that on Wednesday Montana’s Supreme Court ruled that “minors don’t need their parents’ permission to get an abortion in the state – agreeing with a lower court ruling that found the parental consent law violates the privacy clause in the state constitution.”
