Friends, America is brave—because you are.
Real courage doesn’t always announce itself. It shows up when no one is watching. It’s choosing what’s right even when it’s uncomfortable, unpopular, or inconvenient. I have seen that courage up close, again and again, in our communities.
I saw it on the streets of America—people showing up against kings, against authoritarianism, against the lie that power belongs to the few instead of the many. I saw it as I stood with veterans in Washington, D.C., demanding Freedom Over Fascism, watching those who once wore the uniform refuse to stay silent as democracy itself was under threat. I saw that same courage when students and parents boarded buses to Tallahassee after Parkland, refusing to let grief be buried and insisting that gun safety mattered more than political convenience. I saw it in Utah, when community members showed up to protest and urge Senator Romney to vote for Trump’s impeachment—despite being told, “We don’t do that here.” They did it anyway. I saw it when thousands gathered at the Supreme Court after Roe v. Wade fell, standing shoulder to shoulder in grief, rage, and resolve—ordinary people refusing to surrender their bodies, their futures, or their rights without a fight. And for several years, I saw it outside ICE Miramar, standing with the Circle of Protection as everyday people summoned extraordinary resolve—week after week pushing back against cruelty just to secure basic human needs for those waiting in line: water, shade, a restroom. None of it was radical. All of it was brave.
America is brave because you are. And right now, we need that bravery more than ever.
The United States—and the world—need a strong America with principled leadership. Instead, we are living under the influence of a small, insecure tyrant who believes slapping his name on everything is the same as greatness. It isn’t. And while Republicans hold the majority, they have delivered little but dysfunction, putting this Congress on track to be one of the least productive since the Great Depression. That outcome isn’t accidental—it’s the result of greed, incompetence, and indifference to the people they were elected to serve.
We must also be honest with ourselves. The erosion of our rights didn’t happen overnight. It was enabled by years of disengagement—by “it’s not my problem,” “I’m too busy,” “nothing ever changes,” or “my voice doesn’t matter.” Most eligible voters still don’t participate. Corruption has been visible for a long time, and too often it was tolerated. Now it’s bolder, louder, and more dangerous.
So what do we do now?
As champions for progress, we must choose to double down on love and action—not as a weakness, but as strength. This holiday season, I encourage all of us to care for our spirits. Rest matters. Renewal matters. The year ahead will demand clarity, courage, and commitment—and it will require all of us to speak out, show up, and build the people power needed to replace corruption and greed with leadership that serves the many, not the few.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive — regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, pronouns, religion, or employment status.

These are not radical demands. They are the foundation of a free and functioning democracy — the vision of a nation that values people over profit, compassion over cruelty, and progress over power-hoarding.
But today, that vision is under attack.
Love does not quit. It does not look away.
It will be our people power—our determination, our shared humanity, and our refusal to abandon one another—that carries us forward. Together, we can confront and dismantle racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, transphobia, misogynoir, elitism, and every form of bigotry that seeks to divide us.
America is brave. Because you are.
And when we act together, there is nothing we cannot change.
A friendly reminder — we’re a community that believes in the power of change and puts in the work to make it happen. It might not seem like much to spend five minutes signing a petition, writing a letter, or making a call, but when we act together, those small efforts add up. That’s how we hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people.
