Friends,
What I am about to share is not easy to write—but it needs to be said.
Every time we address uncomfortable issues—whether about healthcare, housing, Israel, or Palestine—some folks walk away. That is okay. I am not here to comfort the comfortable. I am here to build a future with people who believe everyone deserves to thrive—and no injustice should be ignored. Looking away is not an option!
When we first issued statements on the attacks in Israel and Palestine (here, here, here, and here), we lost a few subscribers. That happens. However, the vast majority of you stayed—and showed up. Because you understand that silence helps no one.
And that is what gives me hope. Most of you come here expecting clarity, compassion, and action. I hope that today will be one of those days. Let us get into it.
A Crisis We Can No Longer Ignore
On October 7, 2023, Hamas unleashed a brutal assault that shattered southern Israel—killing around 1,200 innocent people and taking 251 hostages. Israel had the right to defend its people from such terror. However, what followed was not defense—it was devastation.
The Netanyahu government, driven by a coalition of far-right politicians, answered violence with overwhelming force. Over the past two years, its military campaign has killed more than 64,000 Palestinians, wounded more than 145,000, and displaced roughly 1.9 million. On August 15, 2025, famine was formally confirmed in Gaza after Israel repeatedly blocked adequate food, medicine, and fuel from entering the territory (WHO). Satellite images show a mass evacuation from northern Gaza as tanks grind through Gaza City (ABC News). Entire neighborhoods have been leveled; hospitals forced to close as patients flee (Washington Post).
The human stories behind these numbers are unbearable. A mother stranded in Gaza City says she and her daughters are “waiting to die” (San Francisco Chronicle). Thirty-two people were killed in a single night of Israeli airstrikes (KCRA). Children are starving to death in what UN experts call a man-made famine.
War crimes should be investigated
Senator Bernie Sanders recently put it bluntly:
“Over the last two years, Israel has not simply defended itself against Hamas. Instead, it has waged an all-out war against the entire Palestinian people. Many legal experts have now concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza…An independent UN commission concluded: ‘It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.’“ (Senator Bernie Sanders)
Legal scholars, Israeli human rights groups like B’Tselem, and global watchdogs, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, echo this finding. These are not fringe voices. They are the world’s leading experts in international law.
Let us be crystal clear: condemning war crimes is not antisemitism. It is not antisemitic to say that deliberately starving civilians, indiscriminately bombing neighborhoods, and gunning down desperate people at food distribution sites is wrong. The crimes of the Netanyahu government are acts of brutality—not acts of faith.
However, feeding Gaza is only the first step. It is time to acknowledge what most of the world already knows: the Palestinian people have the right to self-determination and recognition as a sovereign nation.
“The State of Palestine is recognised as a sovereign nation by 157 of the 193 UN member states, representing 81 percent of the international community.” (Al Jazeera)
The U.S. is shamefully absent from the list of nations supporting Palestinian statehood and efforts to end the famine.
However, momentum is building: Senate Democrats led by Jeff Merkley have introduced a resolution calling for U.S. recognition of a Palestinian state (Washington Post). Recognizing Palestinian nationhood—including Gaza—is not only a moral imperative; it is the only viable path to lasting peace.
Other nations are already stepping up. Italy and Spain have deployed naval vessels to assist the Global Sumud Flotilla, risking diplomatic backlash to deliver aid (Reuters). The United States should do no less.
We must use every ounce of our leverage—economic, diplomatic, and moral—to open humanitarian corridors and push for recognition of Palestinian nationhood.
People Power United’s Stand
As we have said before:
“People Power United stands with the people of Israel who have been brutally attacked by the terrorist organization, Hamas. We condemn the killings, kidnappings, and terror that has been unleashed on Israel.
People Power United also stands with the innocent people of Palestine, who are also being used as human pawns by the terrorist organization Hamas in its dispute with Israel.
We call on America to support a free and just Israel and Palestine and take every action to ensure peace in the Middle East.”
Let me be very clear: killing innocent Israelis is not acceptable. Ever. Oppressing and killing Palestinians is also not acceptable. It never has been, and it never will be. Killing thousands of people in Gaza—half of them children—is not acceptable.
Silence is complicity. The people of Gaza are starving, suffering, and dying in full view of the world. The U.S. must join the 157 nations that already recognize Palestine, end military aid that fuels atrocities, and lead the call to Feed Gaza—and Recognize Its Nationhood.

This is a human horror story. Thank you.
What is sickening to me is those that accepted AIPAC $$$$, some I have supported, Democrats, refuse to cross Israel’s stance because of acceptance of AIPAC’s money. Acceptance of this money is, in my opinion, selling their soul, and murdering in the most vile way, and annihilation of an entire culture! I have written one of my senators and received a reply stating: “Israel had a right to protect itself, and get their hostages back.” Also, “Hamas is commandeering aid being sent”. Keep screaming, keep writing, keep protesting, but feels like we are doing so into the great void.
