Protect What We’ve Earned: Save and Expand Social Security is a rallying call to defend one of America’s greatest promises — a pledge built on decades of work and shared responsibility. Together, we can protect what we’ve earned and secure a stronger future for all.
A program that has never failed the American people is being sabotaged from within, while those responsible attempt to erase the paper trail.
This is a moral and economic emergency—and it is all preventable. Social Security embodies our national promise that everyone—the aged, the disabled, the orphaned, the chronically ill—deserves Security and dignity. To allow political operatives under 34-time convicted felon President—but not a leader—Trump, Congressional Republicans, and corporate interests to dismantle it in secret is to betray that promise.
Today we’re sharing urgent calls to action to demand accountability and push Congress to save and expand Social Security — alongside recent updates on what’s happening with the program.
We cannot stay silent. Silence surrenders our power to corruption and fascism. It’s up to us to hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people and defend the promise we’ve earned together.

📉 A Diminished Social Security Work Force, and Its Customers, Feel the Strain
Staff cuts at the Social Security Administration have left field offices critically understaffed, with beneficiaries waiting weeks—or even months—for help. Some recipients are going without checks, losing healthcare, or facing eviction and hunger due to the agency’s reduced capacity. A 12% workforce reduction has compounded backlogs, with some offices having no appointments available for six weeks or longer. The agency’s decline underscores the devastating cost of neglecting essential public service infrastructure. — The New York Times
⚠️ Report Accuses DOGE of Exposing Americans’ Personal Data
A Senate report warns that the Department of Government Efficiency may have compromised millions of Americans’ Social Security numbers by uploading sensitive data to an unsecured cloud server. The report, released by Sen. Gary Peters, reveals that DOGE staffers moved Social Security Administration data into an unmonitored system without safeguards. A whistleblower claimed the breach could be so severe that every American may need to be issued a new SSN. Lawmakers are demanding accountability for this unprecedented cybersecurity lapse. — The Hill
🗣️ Senate Democrats Slam Social Security Chief Over Retirement Age Confusion
Senate Democrats are demanding clarity after Commissioner Frank Bisignano appeared to suggest the Social Security retirement age could be raised—a reversal of Trump’s campaign promises. In a letter led by Senators Warren, Gillibrand, and Blumenthal, lawmakers warned such a move would betray working Americans. The White House later walked back the statement, insisting no changes are currently being considered. The confusion has fueled broader concern about transparency and the administration’s handling of Social Security. — The Hill
💰 Americans’ Most Valuable Asset Isn’t Stocks or a Home. It’s Social Security
For most Americans outside the wealthiest 10%, Social Security represents their single greatest financial asset. A Congressional Budget Office analysis found that, for middle-class families, it accounts for roughly one-third of total wealth. The findings highlight just how vital the program remains for retirement security and economic stability across generations. Experts warn that cuts to benefits or administrative neglect could devastate millions who rely on these payments as a lifeline. — Seattle Times
👔 Trump’s Latest Insult to Social Security: A Part-Time Commissioner
The Trump administration has appointed Commissioner Frank Bisignano to simultaneously serve as CEO of the Internal Revenue Service—an unprecedented dual role in the agency’s 90-year history. Critics say splitting his attention will cripple leadership at a time when Social Security is already struggling with staffing crises and service delays. Advocates warn this power consolidation undermines accountability and signals deep disregard for the agency’s mission to protect retirees and the disabled. — Common Dreams
📞 Social Security Workers Say the Shutdown Has Them Unable to Help With Benefit Letters
During the ongoing shutdown, Social Security workers report being unable to provide essential benefit verification letters—documents many seniors need for mortgages, rent subsidies, or fuel assistance. While online access technically exists, millions of elderly or low-income Americans lack internet access or digital literacy. Workers describe daily calls from desperate beneficiaries facing eviction or foreclosure. The disruption exposes how fragile safety-net systems become under political brinkmanship. — NPR
