Friends, the right to vote is not a privilege handed out by politicians—it is power to the people. It is how we hold leaders accountable, how we protect our families, and how we shape the future together. That’s why the idea of immigration enforcement anywhere near polling places is so dangerous. ICE at the polls isn’t “security.” It’s intimidation. And intimidation has no place in a democracy.
Let’s be clear: polling locations should be safe, calm, and accessible—a place where every eligible voter can show up without fear, confusion, or harassment. When armed or uniformed enforcement is present, or when rumors spread that people could be questioned about immigration status, it chills participation. People turn around. They stay home. They choose silence over risk. And that is exactly how voting rights are undermined—not always by changing laws, but by creating fear.
This isn’t only about immigrants. It’s about all of us. When any group can be targeted or threatened at the ballot box, everyone’s freedom becomes conditional. The message becomes: “Your voice is allowed only if you don’t make the powerful uncomfortable.” That is not democracy. That is authoritarianism creeping in through the cracks.
We also know how misinformation spreads—fast. One viral post, one whisper in a line, one bad actor pretending to be “official,” and suddenly voters are second-guessing whether it’s safe to cast a ballot. Communities that have already faced discrimination and over-policing will feel that pressure most. The result? Fewer voices heard, less representation, and more power concentrated in the hands of those who want to rule without consent.
Power to the people means defending the polls as a public trust. No ICE. No intimidation. No fear. Just voters—showing up for their neighbors, their rights, and their future.
