In this place of hope and shared humanity, we stand united in compassion and courage — welcoming everyone, rejecting division, and lifting up every voice. Here, we choose love over hostility, understanding over fear, and community over isolation.
Across this nation, people of all backgrounds are grappling with deep frustration and sorrow as violence and injustice strike our communities. Recent events — including federal immigration enforcement actions that have resulted in the deaths of Minneapolis residents and sparked widespread protest and debate — have left many hearts heavy and spirits stirred. Yet amid the grief, something remarkable is unfolding: neighbors who have never seen themselves as activists — those who have never marched, spoken out, or worn a badge of political identity — are finding their voice and searching for meaningful ways to show they care.
We Are the Light was born to uplift our communities.

You don’t need training, a title, or social media clout. The action is simple: place a candle — real or battery-powered — in your window each night. Let that gentle glow be a visible symbol of solidarity, hope, and nonviolent resistance.
For generations, candles in windows have carried deep meaning — from signals of safety along the Underground Railroad to quiet beacons of peace and defiance during resistance movements in Europe in World War II. Let this light stand for solidarity with the oppressed, opposition to violence, and belief in a better, more just world.

On January 24, 2026, federal immigration agents fatally shot 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, igniting nationwide outrage and deepening fear in communities already targeted by aggressive enforcement tactics. Pretti, who cared for veterans and peacefully stood up to oppressive federal action, was killed in broad daylight — the latest in a string of violent encounters that include the earlier killing of Renée Good.
Enough is enough. Exercising our Constitutional rights to document, record, and witness the actions of ICE, CBP, and other federal agents is no longer optional — it’s necessary. Every phone camera pointed at abuses, every legal observer trained, every neighbor supported keeps power in check and protects our communities from terror and unchecked force.
