Trump's Iran Bombing Is Unconstitutional — Here's Why It Matters
The bombs have begun to fall. Without a declaration of war, without congressional authorization, and without the consent of the American people, the Trump administration has launched military strikes against Iran — and People Power United stands in fierce, unwavering opposition to every life lost in this reckless and unlawful act of aggression.
We mourn the American servicemembers who will be placed in harm’s way.1 We grieve for the civilians on the other side of those bombs who never had a say in the decisions of powerful men. Every flag-draped coffin that returns to American soil will be a consequence of a war that was never legal, never debated, and never approved by the branch of government the Constitution explicitly entrusts with that authority: the United States Congress.
Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution is not a suggestion. It is the supreme law of this land. The power to declare war belongs to the people’s elected representatives — not to any single man sitting behind a desk in the Oval Office. When that line is crossed, we are no longer living in a constitutional republic. We are living under the rule of a strongman. And let us be crystal clear: power to the people does not mean power to a dictator. A free democracy is defined precisely by its refusal to place unchecked authority in the hands of one person, no matter how loudly that person claims a mandate.
We have seen this movie before. Wars launched on executive whim. Lives sacrificed for political theater. Treasure spent while working, families struggle at home. Each time, the American people were told to trust and comply. Each time, we paid the price in blood and treasure while those who ordered the strikes faced no accountability.
Not this time. Not on our watch.
People Power United calls on every American who believes in the rule of law, the sanctity of human life, and the promise of democratic governance to rise — peacefully, loudly, and persistently — and demand that Congress fulfill its constitutional duty. This is a defining moment for our democracy. Across the country, extremist forces are trying to seize power, gut health care, starve essential programs, tear families apart, and funnel public money to billionaires while everyday people pay the price. They want silence. They want fear. They want obedience.
We are giving them none of it.
America was never meant to be ruled by strongmen, oligarchs, or would-be kings. Power does not flow from crowns or bank accounts — it comes from the people. And the people are standing up.
The No Kings movement is growing because millions of us refuse to bankroll cruelty, normalize authoritarianism, or look away as our freedoms are stripped piece by piece — while citizens are killed, our neighbors are illegally detained, and brutality is inflicted in our name. We are workers and seniors, parents and students, nurses, teachers, veterans, and neighbors — united by a belief in dignity, democracy, and the rule of law.
That’s why we are mobilizing again for the largest No Kings national day of action yet.
Every No Kings event is rooted in nonviolent action. We de-escalate conflict, act lawfully, and never bring weapons. When People Power United says “fight,” we mean fierce advocacy — never violence.
