Political violence thrives on one poisonous lie: that ordinary people are powerless. A passionate call to defend democracy and reject violence—differences with Trump and his Republican allies must be settled at the ballot box, through law, and people-powered advocacy to protect the freedom to disagree.
I truly think we need a leader. Someone who will stand up for the American people and who will stand against what is going on. Governor Newsom and Governor Pritzker have shown that they will not back down but we need one of them or someone like them to rise to the occasion so that there aren't so many fractured organizations. Right now Stephen Miller is calling all the shots and directing everyone what to do.
Now that Trump and Vance have called out their MAGA haters to attack anyone who voices against them things will get ugly. I have read that people are marching to Washington to protest. I have read that a woman protestor at a peaceful rally who was using a cane was pushed over by ICE and then shot with non lethal bullets in the face repeatedly by ICE. I have Canadian citizenship as well as American. My husband was a Navy veteran who passed last year. I cannot abandon him. I am a Christian - let me put it this way - a true follower of Jesus who loves and does not hate but I think I must have some of the warrior angel Michael in me because I will stay and protest. If it takes for all of us to march to Washington then I will do so. I am 66 years old and should be retired. I have many health issues but I will protest for my family and all those here in America who have been wronged.
I find it disturbing and upsetting that the assassination of Melissa Hartman and her husband, and the attempted murder of two others have been omitted from your article.
It's bad enough that the Republican regime and mainstream media have ignored these but they shouldn't be forgotten.
I am for the people power but tell me where the guardrails are today? The truth is: there are none. Trump and his regime are changing the laws as they see fit. Restricting our freedom of speech, especially if it's against Trump, restricting our right to protest-with the threat of arrest, and the list goes on. The guardrails that were once there to protect all of us, are now gone. Innocent people are getting rounded up and thrown into detention centers in the US. It doesn't feel like we have much people power left-communicating to your House or Senate member is a waste, especially if they happen to be Republican, because they enabling Trump at every turn. My hope is we replace the cowardice of leaders who sit in Congress and fail to respond or represent their constituents by electing people power centered leaders.
