Happy Black History Month! This is a time to honor the resilience, brilliance, and leadership of Black Americans who have shaped our nation’s past, present, and future. It is both a celebration of culture, achievement, and community—and a call to confront injustice and continue the work of freedom and equality for all.
I also want to acknowledge that this publication reaches people from all walks of life, and some may ask why we recognize a history month for one group over another. Celebrating one community does not diminish the uniqueness or worth of any other. Justice is not pie—equal rights for all truly means all. And while that promise is written into the 14th Amendment, that means turning principle into action—defending truth, protecting rights, and refusing to let history or justice be erased.
Power to the People Includes the Right to History
Friends, since Trump and Republican leaders took power in 2025, we have witnessed a sweeping assault on truth, racial justice, and collective memory. Policies weakening accountability, halting civil rights enforcement, and targeting diversity and inclusion—while restoring Confederate symbols tied to slavery and oppression—send a chilling message that history can be rewritten and injustice ignored if we allow it. These actions are being driven by leadership under a 34-count convicted felon—President in title, but not a true leader—Donald Trump, alongside complicit Republicans determined to dismantle protections for marginalized communities and recast inclusion as a threat rather than a promise.
And let’s be clear: they are actively working to strip eligible voters from the rolls ahead of the next election in order to seize more power and silence the vast majority of people in America who did not vote for Trump or for Republican policies that harm hardworking families while funneling the people’s wealth and power to billionaires and corporations.
Yet history has never belonged solely to those in power. Across the country, communities continue to organize, teach truth, defend civil rights, and stand together against injustice—reminding us that confronting the full story of America is essential to building a just future. Black History Month calls us not only to remember, but to act: to defend civil rights, resist censorship, uplift Black and Brown voices, and build the collective power needed to protect democracy.
This moment is alarming, but the story is not finished. Progress has always depended on people who refuse silence. Now is the time to speak out, show up, and organize—in our neighborhoods, online, and in the streets—while supporting those fighting for justice in courts and legislatures. Solidarity across race, background, and community affirms that America’s history cannot be erased and its future must bend toward justice.
The struggle ahead will not be easy, but truth and courage remain stronger than fear. By voting, organizing, educating, and standing together, we protect the progress generations fought to secure and move closer to the promise of equality and freedom. When we defend history, we defend the people who shaped it—and the generations still rising to fulfill it.

That’s why it’s so important to join the National Day of Action for No Kings. If you’ve heard anyone say nothing is happening, know this: action is happening everywhere.
