📢 Power to the People: We Did Not Consent to This War

People Power United exposes Trump’s illegal war on Venezuela and calls on Congress to halt the attack and defend the Constitution.

Friends, in response to the recent events in and around Venezuela, we’re sharing our People Power United statement and clear calls to action for our members. Thank you for your support—we truly appreciate it.

People Power United condemns the Trump administration’s illegal military operation in Venezuela—including the bombing of multiple sites and the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro—carried out without authorization from Congress. Venezuela deserves to be free from authoritarian rule—but this was not the way to pursue it. This operation endangered Venezuelan civilians, plunged the country into instability, and violated US and international law. It is also a deeply concerning sign of what is to come from this administration.

This escalation follows a dangerous and familiar pattern from Donald Trump: governing by decree, bypassing Congress, and using war as a political weapon. Americans were told this violence was about drugs. That claim collapsed when Trump pardoned Juan Orlando Hernández just last month on three counts of drug trafficking and weapons conspiracy. Hernández—former president of Honduras—had been found guilty and sentenced to 45 years in federal prison, underscoring the deep hypocrisy behind the Trump administration’s claims. Plunging the US into a war without Congressional approval is not leadership—it is lawlessness imposed on us all.

We also unequivocally denounce any plan to seize or exploit Venezuela’s oil. War for oil is theft—an immoral grab for resources that belong to the Venezuelan people, paid for by US tax dollars siphoned away from addressing essential needs. It is colonial logic, which devastates communities abroad while fueling repression through fear.

People Power United stands with those demanding No Kings. No War. The power to declare war belongs to Congress and the people—not any president acting alone. We call for an immediate halt to US military operations, full accountability for this unlawful action, and a recommitment to diplomacy, democratic governance, the rule of law, and human life. Freedom over fascism. People power over authoritarianism.

Trump’s intervention in Venezuela undermined the very democratic principles it claims to defend. Real freedom cannot be delivered through illegal force. We support the Venezuelan people who elected Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimate president, and we call for a peaceful transition of power. Control of the country should not remain with the United States. Urrutia should immediately assume his constitutional mandate and be recognized as Commander-in-Chief by the National Armed Forces. People Power United supports a peaceful, Venezuelan-led democratic transition grounded in self-determination, diplomacy, and respect for the rule of law—because lasting democracy is built by people, not imposed by war.
