Rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law will not survive on hope alone. They survive when ordinary people refuse to be silent, refuse to look away, and choose to rise together. Every day we wait, corrupt power grows bolder and injustice digs in deeper. Pride Month Is a Recommitment to Liberty and Justice for All

Pride Month is not just a celebration. It is a recommitment.
At People Power United, we believe equality and equity matter because the promise of America must belong to all of us. Not just the wealthy. Not just the powerful. Not just the people politicians choose to protect. All of us. In a land that claims liberty and justice for all, every person must have the freedom to live openly, safely, and fully.
That includes our LGBTQIA+ siblings, neighbors, friends, family members, coworkers, students, elders, and community leaders. It includes every child who deserves to grow up knowing they are loved. It includes every adult who deserves to live without being targeted by hate, discrimination, or political cruelty. It includes every person, no matter their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, age, income, or zip code.
As we celebrate Pride Month—a time to honor love, authenticity, courage, and the hard-won progress of the LGBTQIA+ community—we must also confront a painful truth: this is a deeply difficult moment for many in our community. Extremists are trying to divide us. They are attacking transgender kids. They are banning books. They are censoring classrooms. They are targeting families, health care, and the freedom to simply exist without fear.
But while this moment is painful, it is not hopeless.
Our history is filled with moments when politicians failed us, courts failed us, and systems failed us—but the people rose up and pushed this country closer to its promise. Every right we cherish was protected because people organized, spoke out, showed up, and refused to surrender their humanity to fear.
So yes, at People Power United, we are committed to staying woke.
And let’s be very clear: “woke” means “to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices.” Don’t let anyone tell you different.
Being woke means refusing to look away when our neighbors are harmed. It means understanding that liberty is not real if it only belongs to some. It means knowing that justice is not justice if it excludes the most vulnerable. It means choosing truth over propaganda, courage over silence, and community over cruelty.
Pride is not just rainbow flags and parades. Pride is a promise. A promise to protect each other. A promise to defend freedom. A promise to build a country where every person can grow, thrive, and be loved without fear.
Friendly reminder: the Equality Act passed the House under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership in 2021, but it ran into the Senate Republican, Sinema, and Manchin wall. If passed into law, the Equality Act would prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity and that is why we cannot stop pushing. Rights do not protect themselves. People protect rights.
This month, we are asking People Power United members to take action in honor of our LGBTQIA+ community:
Take action: Send a message to your member of Congress: Pass the Equality Act.
Take Action: Stop the Federal Government from Banning Books.
Call your Senator at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to pass the Equality Act.
Let us stand united. Let us stay informed. Let us stay woke. Let us keep building a future rooted in equality, equity, freedom, and power to the people.
