Wins for Immigrant and Refugee Rights
New York announces $7.25 million for legal services for unaccompanied immigrant children - New York announced new funding to provide legal services for roughly 1,400 unaccompanied immigrant children and youth, including more than 250 children currently detained, after the federal contract for these services expired. This is a win because children should never have to stand alone in immigration court, and legal representation can be the difference between safety and deportation. New York State Governor’s Office.
Wins for Civil Rights
Student loans are being erased for borrowers defrauded by colleges - A long-running legal battle is finally bringing relief to hundreds of thousands of federal student loan borrowers who say they were misled or defrauded by their schools. This is a win for human and civil rights because people harmed by predatory institutions should not be trapped for decades under debt built on deception. NPR
Wins for Protecting Our Planet
EV drivers are saving money as gas prices rise - New data shows that rising gas prices have made the monthly cost difference between driving a gas-powered car and an electric vehicle even more striking, with EVs now cheaper to fuel in nearly every state. This is a win for protecting our planet because clean transportation can help people save money while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The Washington Post

WestJet flight attendants secure 18% wage hike in tentative deal - Flight attendants secured a tentative agreement after a brief strike, with the union saying the deal includes an 18% wage increase over three years. This is a win for labor rights because workers pushed the company to recognize their full labor and showed that collective action can raise standards across the airline industry. CHCH
Wins for Democracy
Charges dropped after Reflecting Pool damage tied to flawed renovation, not vandalism - Prosecutors moved to drop charges against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn after court filings said damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool liner was caused by flawed installation during a rushed renovation, not vandalism. This is a win for freedom over fascism because the government should not be able to turn political blame into criminal prosecution when the facts do not support it. The New York Times
Appeals court blocks Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project - A federal appeals court ordered the administration to stop above-ground construction on a massive White House ballroom project until Congress authorizes it. This is a win for freedom over fascism because public landmarks belong to the people, and even a president cannot bulldoze democratic process to remake national spaces by decree. The New York Times

You’re invited to stand with people from across the country at the March on Washington: Defend the Vote on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 8 AM ET at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Hosted by Reverend Al Sharpton, the National Action Network, and the Drum Major Institute, and joined by Martin Luther King III and other civil rights leaders, this historic gathering will mark the 63rd anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
📍Attend in person, 📺watch the virtual livestream, 🙋 volunteer, or become a 🤝 partner. We are not gathering simply to remember history—we are gathering to make it.
