Resist & Rising Together Weekly: Good News and Progress from the Resistance
Each week, Resist & Rising Together Weekly by People Power United shares stories of courage, creativity, and collective power from people pushing back against fascism and building a better future. While authoritarians try to divide and silence us, we riseâcommunity by community, action by actionâto defend democracy, demand justice, and celebrate progress. From victories in the courts and wins for workers to breakthroughs in climate action and moments of solidarity, this movement reminds the world that power in America belongs to the people, not to kings, billionaires, or authoritarians.
Because resistance isnât just about fighting backâitâs about moving forward. Together, we are writing the story of progress, one act of people power at a time.
Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and courage of the American peopleâthose rising together to reject tyranny and defend our democracy.
Wins for Democracy
Judge temporarily blocks payouts from Trumpâs $1.776 billion âanti-weaponizationâ settlement fund
A federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from moving forward with the fund, which critics said could reward political allies and Jan. 6 rioters. It is a meaningful rule-of-law setback to a scheme that watchdogs and bipartisan critics called corrupt. APFederal court blocks Alabama plan for new congressional districts that could help Republicans
A three-judge federal panel blocked Alabama from using a Republican-backed map for 2026, finding it intentionally discriminated against Black voters. The ruling keeps in place a court-ordered map with two majority or near-majority Black districts. PBSJudge says Kennedy Center board broke law putting Trumpâs name on building and blocks closure
A federal judge ruled that Trumpâs name was added to the Kennedy Center illegally and ordered it removed from the building and official materials within two weeks. The judge also blocked the planned closure for renovations, saying only Congress has the authority to rename the institution. The Guardian
Human and Civil Rights
Over 300 detainees at Delaney Hall launch hunger and labor strike over conditions
More than 300 detainees at Newarkâs Delaney Hall joined a hunger and labor strike to demand better food, better medical care, and faster immigration proceedings. The Guardian
Labor Wins
Supreme Court rejects Floridaâs bid to sue Western states over truck licenses for immigrants
The Supreme Court declined Floridaâs attempt to challenge California and Washington over policies that let some immigrants obtain commercial driverâs licenses. That leaves those state policies standing and marks a small but notable immigrant-rights and federalism win. NPRUber, Lyft drivers in Massachusetts form first US ride-share union
Massachusetts drivers for Uber and Lyft formed the first officially recognized ride-share union in the United States, representing nearly 70,000 workers. It is one of the clearest recent labor-rights breakthroughs for gig workers anywhere in the country. WPRI
Immigrant and Refugee Wins
US judge tosses Trump administrationâs challenge to Bostonâs âsanctuaryâ immigration law

It is a strong immigration and local-democracy win because the law limiting cooperation with civil immigration enforcement remains in place. WGBHTrump administration grants rare TPS reprieve, extending protections for 11,000 Lebanese
The administration extended Temporary Protected Status for about 11,000 Lebanese nationals, allowing them to keep living and working legally in the United States through November 27, 2026. It is a real immigrant-rights reprieve, even if it happened because DHS missed its deadline. AP
Why the Grassroots Resistance Canât Wait
People Power United members believe change is possible because we have seen ordinary people rise, organize, and be a force for progress. Real change does not come from waiting politely, staying quiet, or hoping those in power suddenly grow a conscience. It comes when people speak out, show up, and demand actionâbecause our communities and families cannot wait, and every moment we delay gives injustice more room to tighten its grip on our communities.
