Kelp forests along California’s coast — once devastated by warming waters, sea-urchin booms, and other stressors — are now showing signs of robust recovery thanks to restoration efforts. These kelp beds are reestablishing themselves as rich ecosystems that draw carbon from the water and air, support marine biodiversity, and help stabilize the coastal environment. Scientists and Indigenous collaborators believe this comeback offers hope not just locally, but for global climate resilience. Democracy Forward and its co-counsel won a critical victory, securing a temporary restraining order that halts the Trump–Vance administration from illegally firing scores of federal workers.
