Resist & Rising Together Weekly: Good News and Progress from the Resistance
Each week, Resist & Rising Together Weekly by People Power United shares stories of courage, creativity, and collective power from people pushing back against fascism and building a better future. While authoritarians try to divide and silence us, we riseācommunity by community, action by actionāto defend democracy, demand justice, and celebrate progress. From victories in the courts and wins for workers to breakthroughs in climate action and moments of solidarity, this movement reminds the world that power in America belongs to the people, not to kings, billionaires, or authoritarians.
Because resistance isnāt just about fighting backāitās about moving forward. Together, we are writing the story of progress, one act of people power at a time.
Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and courage of the American peopleāthose rising together to reject tyranny and defend our democracy.

Alvin Brown and Robert Primus ā two Black, Senate-confirmed independent agency board members who were unlawfully fired ā have amended their lawsuits to add race discrimination claims against the Trump-Vance administration. Their filings come amid mounting evidence that the administration has disproportionately removed Black leaders from independent agencies, rapidly transforming previously diverse boards into overwhelmingly White ones. ā Democracy Forward

š Underwater Forests Return to Life off the Coast of California, and That Might be Good News for the Entire Planet
Kelp forests along Californiaās coast ā once devastated by warming waters, sea-urchin booms, and other stressors ā are now showing signs of robust recovery thanks to restoration efforts. These kelp beds are reestablishing themselves as rich ecosystems that draw carbon from the water and air, support marine biodiversity, and help stabilize the coastal environment. Scientists and Indigenous collaborators believe this comeback offers hope not just locally, but for global climate resilience. The revival underscores how restoring natural habitats can yield widespread environmental benefits. ā Smithsonian Magazine
āļø State Resistance to Federal Overreach
A bipartisan group of 36 state attorneys general urged Congress to reject a federal ban on state AI regulations, warning that AI poses major risks such as scams, deepfakes, and harmful interactions, especially for vulnerable people. States have already passed targeted laws and argue local action is critical. They ask Congress to avoid blocking state protections and instead work with them on regulations that safeguard the public while allowing innovation. ā National Association of Attorneys General
šµ Federal Dollars and Equity for All
A coalition of local governments and nonprofits has gone to court to block the Trump-Vance administrationās newest assault on effective homelessness policy. The administration is imposing unlawful, punitive restrictions designed to strip funding from strategies that actually work and push vulnerable families closer to losing their homes. If allowed to stand, these changes could destabilize hundreds of thousands of people right as winter sets in. ā Democracy Forward
š· Movement Wins for Workers
Democracy Forward and its co-counsel won a critical victory, securing a temporary restraining order that halts the TrumpāVance administration from illegally firing scores of federal workers. The ruling blocks the administration from defying the very law that ended the recent government shutdown, stopping mass terminations before they could take effect. ā Democracy Forward
