Friends, here at People Power United, we work hard to keep everyone informed by taking deep dives into key issues and offering timely calls to action. But with so much happening—and so many crises unfolding—it’s impossible to cover everything in our daily People Power United Newsletters. That’s why we’ve created specialized newsletters for members to follow their specific passions and interests. These newsletters have been around for a while—most publish at least once a week (except for our daily news). With so many new members joining our community, I like to occasionally remind everyone that we’re actively engaged on a wide range of issues.

  • Daily News and Stories in the movement: Power to the People News

  • Resisting authoritarianism and Project 2025: Resist Project 2025

  • Immigration reform and ICE accountability: ICEbreaker News

  • Voting rights and democracy: Protect Democracy

  • The Supreme Court: Supreme Court Accountability

  • Abortion rights: Reproductive Freedom for All

  • Climate and the environment: Protect Our Planet

  • Fighting fascism: Freedom Over Fascism

This week, I’ll be highlighting a few so you can see which ones speak to your interests.

I also want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support. These are trying times—filled with greed, corruption, cruelty, and moral decay from the Trump administration and complicit Republican members of Congress. But I assure you: we have the power. The people are rising to reclaim our rights, our freedoms, our rule of law, and our democracy. Together, we will hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people and ensure everyone in our community has an opportunity to thrive.

ICEBreaker News is dedicated to exposing the harm caused by ICE and confronting state violence. As our communities face escalating raids, detentions, and fear, ICEbreaker News keeps watch. We shine a light on the cruelty, demand accountability, and organize to end the injustice. Together, we advocate to protect our communities and break the silence surrounding ICE’s abuses.

Six Broadview protesters indicted, including congressional candidate Katherine ‘Kat’ Abughazaleh

  • 🚨 Six activists including Illinois House candidate Kat Abughazaleh and Cook County Board candidate Catherine Sharp face federal conspiracy charges for allegedly blocking an ICE vehicle during September protests outside the Broadview detention facility, with each facing up to six years in prison. The indictments have drawn widespread criticism from Democratic officials who call the charges a politically motivated attack on First Amendment rights and an abuse of power by the Trump administration. — The New York Times

Judge says ICE can open its newest branded immigrant detention center

  • 🏛️ A federal judge denied activists’ request to block the opening of Nebraska’s “Cornhusker Clink,” an ICE-branded immigrant detention center being converted from a state work camp, allowing it to open as soon as this weekend. The facility joins other facilities that the Trump administration and Republican allies have branded with nicknames like “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida and the “Louisiana Lockup,” a former slave plantation praised by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. — MSNBC

DHS flyer recruits for ICE using ‘Halo’ theme

  • 🎮 The Department of Homeland Security released a recruitment flyer using imagery from the Halo video game showing characters on a Warthog with text reading “Destroy the flood” to recruit ICE agents, prompting criticism from Halo’s co-creators who called the comparison of immigrants to parasitic aliens “absolutely abhorrent” and “despicable.” The ad came just days after Microsoft announced a remake of the original Halo game, and follows a pattern of DHS using video game properties like Pokémon for immigration enforcement recruitment. — The Hill

Opinion | ICE lowered its standards and is still struggling to hire officers

  • 📉 Despite receiving $30 billion in funding and eliminating age requirements to recruit 10,000 new enforcement officers by the end of 2025, ICE is struggling to meet its hiring goals with reports showing one-third of recruits failing basic physical fitness tests and half failing open-book immigration law exams. The agency has resorted to aggressive television advertising campaigns targeting local police officers and making 59-year-old actor Dean Cain an honorary ICE officer, while experts predict the actual hiring numbers will fall far short of the stated goal due to burnout, low pay compared to local departments, and the agency’s negative public image. — MSNBC

The Soccer Mom Who Strikes Fear Into the Heart of ICE

  • 🚗 Angelica Vargas, a mental health professional and soccer mom from Downey, California, has become an ICE chaser with hundreds of thousands of TikTok followers, pursuing federal immigration vehicles in her Mercedes and posting time-lapse videos to expose their tactics while offering catharsis to fearful immigrant communities. Emboldened after successfully extracting her sister from an ICE raid at Home Depot, Vargas now coordinates with other activists through social media to track raids and confront agents, raising over $122,000 through crowdfunding to support her work documenting enforcement actions. — The Nation

Democrats launch efforts to hold ICE agents accountable

  • 📊 Democratic officials at federal and state levels are launching initiatives to document alleged ICE misconduct, including New York Attorney General Letitia James opening a portal for New Yorkers to report violations and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker establishing an accountability commission to create a formal public record. House Democrats are also creating a misconduct tracker to systematically document abuse and civil rights violations by ICE agents, amid viral videos showing agents inflicting violence against both undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens during the Trump administration’s enforcement crackdown. — MSNBC

Urgent Calls to Action to hold ICE accountable:

When leaders escape accountability, it signals that power—not justice—rules, eroding trust, fueling corruption, and opening the door to authoritarianism. Billionaire-backed justices and elites aren’t serving the people—they’re scheming to suppress our voices, strip away our rights, and rule over us. But progress and power to the people is more than an idea; it’s a movement. By standing up, speaking out, and demanding dignity, opportunity, and justice for all, we can build an America that truly lives up to its promise.
