Apparently kidnapping people, terrorizing communities, tear-gassing protesters, killing people during enforcement operations, and locking human beings inside filthy detention facilities was not cruel enough. Now ICE wants electric-shock gloves.
Yes. Electric. Shock. Gloves.
ICE is reportedly preparing to spend up to $20 million on gloves capable of delivering painful electrical shocks directly through a person’s skin.1 They can look like ordinary patrol gloves until activated.
When government agents are equipped to inflict electrical pain on human beings to force obedience deliberately, it’s a moral call for all of us to stand against this cruelty and demand action: STOP.
Because look at the record.
The ACLU and numerous others have documented allegations involving masked immigration agents, unmarked vehicles, people being tackled and pinned down, chemical irritants like tear gas, and enforcement actions affecting citizens, children, journalists, protesters, and community observers.2

And let’s not forget, people have been killed during immigration enforcement operations like Alexi Pretti and Renee Nicole Good. Our communities have also been hit with tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and other weapons, resulting in injuries that include blindness and traumatic brain injury.3 4
Behind detention walls, investigations have documented allegations of medical neglect, overcrowding, inadequate food, filthy toilets and showers, lack of basic hygiene, and people kept in temporary holding facilities beyond ICE’s own extended detention limits. 5 6
And now we are supposed to trust ICE with a weapon that can deliver an electric shock through the touch of a hand? This is a moral issue that demands our immediate attention and action.
Hell no.
This is how cruelty becomes institutionalized under an authoritarian fascist regime: one weapon, one blank check, one excuse at a time.
Congress controls the money. Not one damn taxpayer dollar should be used to put electric-shock weapons into ICE agents’ hands.
