Ban Partisan Gerrymandering Now
When politicians cannot win on their policies, their leadership, or their record, they often reach for the oldest trick in the anti-democracy playbook: rig the system.
That is what partisan gerrymandering does. It allows politicians to draw maps that protect their own power, silence entire communities, and make elections less about the will of the people and more about the survival of the powerful. It turns democracy upside down. Instead of voters choosing their representatives, politicians choose which voters count.
And when voices are silenced, people get hurt.
When communities are carved apart for political gain, families lose power over the decisions that shape their lives. Schools get ignored. Hospitals close. Wages stay low. Housing becomes more unaffordable. Voting rights are weakened. Civil rights are attacked. Public dollars flow toward wealthy donors and political insiders while working people are told to wait, struggle, and accept less.
That is not an accident. That is the point.
Gerrymandering allows politicians to dodge accountability. It gives extremists a shield. It lets them push unpopular policies, attack our rights, and ignore the needs of the people because they know the map has been drawn to protect them. They do not have to earn trust. They do not have to listen. They do not have to lead. They only have to manipulate the rules.
That is not leadership. That is cheating.
A healthy democracy requires fair maps, fair elections, and fair representation. Every community deserves a voice. Every voter deserves equal power. No party should be allowed to slice and divide neighborhoods to silence voters they fear. No politician should be able to cling to office by weakening the people’s ability to remove them.
This is about more than district lines. This is about whether democracy belongs to the people or to politicians who are afraid of the people.
We need Congress to ban partisan gerrymandering now. We need enforceable national standards that protect fair representation, stop map manipulation, and make sure every vote has equal power.
Power to the people means our voices must not be erased.
Power to the people means politicians should win by serving the people, not by rigging the map.
