Stop Trump’s Mega Detention Warehouses
Trump’s mega detention warehouses waste taxpayer dollars, fuel abuse, and deny due process. Demand courts, judges, and humane alternatives now.
Friends, Donald Trump’s push for “mega detention warehouses” is not in the public interest, nor is it patriotic. It is a costly, harmful expansion of a system already failing basic standards of law and human dignity. Many people in immigration detention are held for civil immigration issues, not violent crime, yet they are treated like they have been convicted. When the government chooses cages over courts, it does not create order. It creates a pipeline for abuse and profiteering.
Look at Alligator Alcatraz, a detention site in Florida’s Everglades that has drawn serious allegations of mistreatment and barriers to legal access. People cannot defend themselves when they cannot reliably reach counsel, get medical care, or communicate with family. That is not “security.” That is control through isolation.
Now broaden the lens to CECOT, a facility repeatedly linked to grave human rights concerns. Human Rights Watch and other watchdogs have documented patterns consistent with arbitrary detention and ill-treatment in El Salvador’s broader crackdown environment. Exporting, imitating, or normalizing that model should alarm anyone who believes in due process.
And here is the core problem: this detention surge is being built without the court capacity to fairly process cases. The U.S. immigration court system is buckling under a massive backlog, while staffing gaps and dysfunction leave families waiting months or years for a hearing. Detention becomes pressure, not lawful adjudication. If officials claim this is “processing,” ask the obvious question: Where are the judges, attorneys, translators, and case resources to handle this humanely and legally? Warehousing people is not processing. It is punishment without conviction.
Trump and his Republican cronies want to play judge and jury for everyone in detention. Why? This is also a money machine. Private prison giants like The GEO Group benefit when detention expands, and contracts grow. The incentive is not justice or efficiency. The incentive is more beds, more dollars, more political theater. Meanwhile, taxpayers foot the bill for a system that cannot even deliver timely hearings.
We should invest in what actually works: more immigration judges, faster and fairer case scheduling, universal legal orientation and access to counsel, competent interpretation, humane case management, and community-based alternatives that ensure people appear in court without turning human beings into revenue streams.
Tell Congress and state leaders: no blank checks for mega detention warehouses. Shut down abusive sites like Alligator Alcatraz, reject any pipeline toward CECOT-style cruelty, and redirect funds from detention profiteers to real due process. Power to the people means courts, accountability, and dignity, not detention empires for profit. Click here to Stop Trump’s Mega Detention Warehouses

Could it be possible that he intends to use all of those "detention centers" for more than just immigrants? Other people he doesn't like? American citizens that annoy him, perhaps? I wouldn't put it past him, Laurie.
