Donald Trump is once again trying to turn public office into private profit. Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department over the leak of his tax records, putting him in the extraordinary position of pursuing money from agencies inside the very government he leads. AP reported that the case raises serious legal and ethical concerns because Trump is both the head of the executive branch and a private plaintiff seeking a massive payout. 1
Let’s be clear: taxpayers should not bankroll Trump’s personal grievances. Reuters reported that Trump and the IRS have been in talks to settle the lawsuit, and any payout would likely involve taxpayer money.2 That means public funds that should serve working families could instead be redirected toward a man who has spent years treating government like a weapon, a shield, and a cash register.
Now the danger is even bigger. ABC News reported that Trump is expected to drop the $10 billion IRS lawsuit in exchange for the creation of a $1.7 billion “weaponization” compensation fund for allies who claim they were targeted by the Biden administration. ABC also reported that the proposed fund could operate with limited oversight, and that Trump would have authority to remove members of the commission running it.3
That is not justice. That is a taxpayer-funded loyalty program.
While families struggle with rent, groceries, health care, child care, and prescription drugs, Trump and his allies are maneuvering to create a pipeline of public money for political grievances. Working people are told there is never enough money for housing, schools, disaster relief, veterans, seniors, or health care. But somehow, when Trump and his allies want a payout, the vault suddenly opens.
This is how corruption spreads: first as a lawsuit, then as a settlement, then as a slush fund, then as a precedent. If a president can pressure the government he controls into rewarding himself, his family, his businesses, or his political allies, then the rule of law becomes a joke.
Congress must step in. Lawmakers must block any taxpayer-funded payout, investigate the negotiations, demand full transparency, and stop Trump from turning the Treasury into a personal and political piggy bank.
Power to the people means no one is above the law—not billionaires, not presidents, not Trump.

Trump Creates $1.7 Billion Taxpayer Slush Fund For His Buddies
Donald Trump is preparing to create a $1.7 billion taxpayer funded slush fund to to payoff political allies. The slush fund is to settle Trump’s lawsuits, against his own Department of Justice, and his own IRS, for their alleged mistreatment of him. The lawsuits would have no chance in a legitimate trial, but when Trump sues the United States he gets to settle with himself.
Under this proposed settlement a “commission,” appointed exclusively by Trump, would be empowered to distribute to his political buddies who claim they were wrongfully targeted by the Biden Administration. While Trump could not personally receive any money, his company and his family could.
Other likely claimants for this slush fund include January 6 cop beaters and criminals convicted by juries at trial (or who pled guilty) like Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, etc.
From the same clowns who said DOGE was necessary for efficiency and saving money. This is the swamp MAGAs were told would be drained.
