As we enter the holiday season, I want to wish you and your loved ones peace, warmth, and joyâno matter what traditions you celebrate. This time of year often invites us to slow down, reflect, and gather with the people who make our lives meaningful. And for me, it also invites honesty.
As I sit with my family and friends this Thanksgiving, I hold gratitude in one hand and truth in the other. The blessings we enjoy today are intertwined with a history of colonialism, displacement, and violenceâharm that Indigenous peoples endured and continue to endure. Today invites us to honor the resilience of the communities whose lands were taken, whose stories were reshaped or erased, and whose survival in the face of centuries of injustice is an act of profound strength and endurance.
Growing up, I was privileged to attend school on the Colville Reservation and to spend my childhood alongside friends from the Colville and Nespelem Tribes. I witnessed the discrimination, bigotry, and systemic inequities they facedâpainful reminders that this nation has never fully lived up to its promise of liberty and justice for all. Those early lessons shaped my understanding of responsibility: that acknowledgment must lead to action, and gratitude must be paired with justice.
Thanksgiving is a complicated and painful day for many Indigenous peoples. It is a day marked by grief, resilience, survival, and ongoing struggles for sovereignty and dignity. At the same time, it is also a moment when many gather to reflect, give thanks, and recommit to making the world more compassionate and just. Holding both realitiesâtruth and gratitudeâallows us to step into this season with open eyes and open hearts. We can recognize harm while choosing to help build a future grounded in healing, dignity, and shared responsibility.
This holiday season, I invite you to join me in reflecting on the joys and lessons of the past year while renewing our commitment to meaningful change in the year ahead. And if there is one thing I am profoundly grateful for, itâs youâand the movement weâve built together.
Here at People Power United, weâve accomplished extraordinary things. Weâve signed petitions, written to lawmakers, sent postcards and letters to voters, knocked on doors, text-banked, phone-banked, and shown up for our communities again and again. Every actionâbig or smallâhas helped shift the balance toward freedom over fascism, progress, and power to the people.
What makes this movement powerful is that it is powered entirely by people like you. No donors. No funders. Just everyday people coming together with courage, conviction, and a shared vision for a better future. Because of that, People Power United has grown into one of the largest grassroots communities of its kind in Americaâmore than 300,000 strong.
You inspire me every single day. Your heart, your grit, your compassion, and your determination to keep advocating for dignity, equality, and justice fuel this movement. You are not just making a differenceâyou are the difference.
And in a moment when extremists want us to feel hopeless or powerless, your resolve proves the opposite. Americans do not surrender to bullies. We do not back down from injustice. We roll up our sleeves. We speak out. We take action. And together, we move mountains.
âDevelop an attitude of gratitude and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.â â Brian Tracy
As we embrace this season of reflection and gratitude, may we also recommit to the work aheadâbuilding a world where everyoneâs story is honored, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Let this season remind us that hope is not passive. Hope is a choice. And action is how we honor it.
Todayâs Calls to Action
Enjoy your dayâwhether itâs food, family, football, or whatever brings you joy! Tomorrow, weâre right back to championing freedom over fascism, progress, and power to the people.
Together, we can protect and empower those we love, champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the peopleâs will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
