Friends, the labor movement is firing up this Labor Day. Across the nation, workers are rising to say: enough is enough. As corrupt billionaires, justices, and politicians scheme to strip away union rights, people across all 50 states are flooding the streets to defend safe workplaces and fair pay—this is democracy in action.
Labor Day Turns Into Day of Resistance
This Labor Day, worker power is rising—and with it, people power.
Across all 50 states, thousands of workers, students, and allies are uniting under the banner “Workers Over Billionaires.” Instead of backyard barbecues, Americans are being called to take to the streets on September 1 to confront Trump’s authoritarian, anti-worker agenda head-on.
Organizers are not just marching—they’re building power:
Training and mobilizing 30 million workers.
Preparing communities nationwide to be “strike-ready.”
This week of coordinated action includes marches, rallies, and parades demanding dignity, fairness, and democracy at work. Together, they reject Trump’s policies that would:
Strip collective bargaining rights from more than 1 million federal workers.
Slash the minimum wage for federal contractors.
Erase labor protections for childcare workers, home care workers, and people with disabilities.
Worker power is people power—and this Labor Day, the people are rising.
Washington, D.C. and Beyond: Protest and Resilience
In Washington, D.C., residents will continue their sustained Labor Day resistance with local events like the “D.C. Freedom Run,” student-led walkouts, and nightly gatherings—all standing in solidarity with immigrant and worker communities. (Axios)
In Houston's Galleria area, labor activists will rally against what they call a “billionaire takeover,” demanding the defense of Medicaid, education, housing, and social services. (Houston Chronicle)
Meanwhile, in Midland, Michigan, the Women of Michigan Action Network (WOMAN) will host a peaceful “Workers Over Billionaires” march from the courthouse to M‑20, amplifying the message that workers—not billionaires—are the nation’s backbone. (Midland Daily News)
In Chicago, a high-profile demonstration called “Workers Over Billionaires: A Labor Day of Action” is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Haymarket Memorial. Protesters will march through the Loop to challenge President Trump’s threats to deploy the National Guard, and demand protection for Medicaid and other worker protections.

FYI
Please note that when People Power United uses the word “fight” in writing, online, or in speech, we mean to advocate fiercely, never to incite or support violence. We do not condone violence in any form, nor do we promote breaking the law.
Our work is rooted in peaceful advocacy through exercising our constitutional rights: voting, free speech, peaceful assembly, rallies, protests, and acts of civil disobedience. We use these tools to defend our rights, freedoms, the rule of law, and our democracy. And together, we will win.
Join us to build People Power! Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people's will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
