Friends, we would typically be sharing Good News from the Resistance today, but in light of this tragedy and the pain our nation is enduring, we are postponing that update until tomorrow.
I often think of the parents of Columbine, Parkland, Sandy Hook, and Uvalde. I imagine the anguish they relive each time another school becomes the site of a preventable act of violence—another reminder of lives forever changed and futures stolen.
What happened yesterday at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, is yet another senseless and preventable tragedy. While gun violence occurs every day in America, each incident is a stark reminder that we cannot stop advocating for change. Too many reckless lawmakers continue to enable gun manufacturers, sellers, and special interest groups to put profits over people—endangering public safety while escaping accountability.
These actors are shielded by an outdated law that protects them from lawsuits. No other industry enjoys this level of immunity, and it raises serious concerns about corruption—especially when many lawmakers benefit from campaign donations tied to the gun lobby.
As champions for progress, we believe that eligible individuals should be able to own firearms—but ownership must come with responsibility, accountability, and strong public safety protections. Our state and federal laws must be modernized to define eligibility better and prevent harm, including:
Requiring universal background checks for all gun and ammunition sales
Enacting and enforcing red flag laws
Preventing domestic abusers from accessing firearms
Banning assault weapons
Limiting magazine capacity
Banning bump stocks
Requiring concealed carry permits
Restricting open carry
Prohibiting firearms in libraries, schools, and hospitals
Establishing mandatory waiting periods
Allowing victims of gun violence their day in court and ending liability shields for gun manufacturers, sellers, and interest groups when negligence and disregard for public safety cause harm.
Please see our People Power United statement below and today’s call to actions centering our call for living in a community free of gun violence. We owe it to the victims, the families, and our communities to act—because living free from gun violence should never be negotiable.
A friendly reminder — we’re a community that believes in the power of change and puts in the work to make it happen. It might not seem like much to spend five minutes signing a petition, writing a letter, or making a call, but when we act together, those small efforts add up. That’s how we hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people.

BUMP STOCKS = BODY BAGS
This is a sentiment I heard following the Vegas shooting where bump stocks "assisted" the shooter in getting a maximum "kill count". And yet...our courts REFUSED to block their production/use.
