Democracy lost its place soon after we declared ourselves free from the King of England. athe declarationof independence pointed out why we were rebelling, but the Consitution in it's early drafts showed the people they were being screwed and the Bill of Rights were added as an after thought, but slavery remained, and the Senate at the time looked more like the house of Lords than a democratically elected of policy folks. It would have been better as a unicameral legislature than one froth with infighting between the haves and the have nots. For 250 years we have struggled with this polarity while rules were sometimes changed, the changes were modified over time putting everything back to where it had been. Our anti-monopoly laws for example.
