💥 Power to the People: Investigate the Profits of $1.4 Billion by Trump
The presidency isn’t a payday. People Power demands accountability. Congress must investigate to protect ethics, trust, and democracy for all.
Is the Trump administration corrupt?
Power to the people means no one gets to turn public office into a private cash machine—not a president, not a cabinet secretary, not anyone. Yet multiple reports now argue that Donald Trump has used the presidency to generate staggering personal gains. The New York Times editorial board has reported an estimate of at least $1.4 billion in documented profit tied to Trump’s return to office. This extraordinary figure demands immediate oversight, transparency, and accountability.
This isn’t just about one number. It’s about the dangerous pattern it represents: political power leveraged for private enrichment while everyday people face rising costs and shrinking security. Reports describing the $1.4 billion figure point to a web of revenue streams—from business and licensing activity to crypto-related ventures and large payments linked to Trump’s orbit—raising urgent questions about conflicts of interest, undisclosed benefits, and whether policy decisions are being shaped to reward donors, foreign interests, or corporations with access.
We have been here before—and we already know the stakes. During Trump’s first term, House Oversight Democrats documented millions in foreign-government spending at Trump properties1, raising serious Emoluments Clause concerns and highlighting how difficult it is to uncover the full scope of profiteering without robust subpoena power and full financial disclosure. Organizations focused on government ethics have repeatedly warned that Trump’s failing to divest and accepting profits through privately held businesses undermines the Constitution’s guardrails and public trust.
Congress has the authority—and the duty—to act. That means opening a formal investigation, demanding complete financial records, holding public hearings, and compelling testimony from any individual or company tied to these transactions. It also means advancing stronger protections so this can’t happen again, including clearer enforcement of emoluments restrictions and bans on foreign payments and self-dealing for top officials.
Call to action: Add your name and tell Congress to investigate the $1.4 billion now—because democracy cannot survive when the presidency becomes a profit center.
